Lachung sits where two streams meet, under steep forested walls, at the point where the North Sikkim road turns properly alpine. It is a village rather than a town - a monastery, a scatter of homestays and lodges, and very little else.
Almost everyone stays here for one reason: the early morning run up to Yumthang Valley and, when the road allows, Zero Point beyond it.
